Golden Retriever: The Ultimate Companion Dog

The Golden Retriever is a popular breed of dog. It is an excellent choice for a family pet or companion. The Golden Retriever was originally bred in Scotland for the purposes of hunting. Golden Retrievers are charming, loveable and highly intelligent dogs. This is a beautiful, energetic breed. The Golden Retriever may have a coat of varying shades of gold. It has a double coat that is waterproof. The undercoat is dense and soft with the outer coat being straight or wavy. The hair on the tail and legs is longer. The male weighs on the average of seventy-five pounds with the female weighing approximately fifty to sixty pounds.

The Golden Retriever is an excellent family dog and they are very tolerant of children. Their friendly nature allows them to get along well with people, other dogs and even other types of household pets. Golden Retrievers are very affectionate, eager to please and devoted companions. They are very social animals, with a good nature and even temperament. Unfortunately their friendly, docile nature does not make them good watchdogs. It also may put them at risk for danger since they tend to be friendly with everyone.

The Golden Retriever is a sturdy, agile and energetic breed but like most other breeds they may be susceptible to certain health conditions. Hip dysplasia is common in Golden Retrievers as well as other conditions such as cataracts, heart disease, cancer, skin allergies and ear infections. Some health conditions may be genetic. As with any other breed, proper nutrition, health care, regular checkups and plenty of exercise can make a difference in the dog’s health and physical condition.

Golden Retrievers are athletic as well as social. They require daily exercise and enjoy going for walks. Golden Retrievers are very playful. They enjoy retrieving balls and playing other games with family members. The Golden Retriever’s high intelligence, obedient nature and physical agility allow them to learn tricks easily and they seem to enjoy displaying the tricks they’ve learned.

Golden Retrievers are very patient dogs, which has made them a good choice as guide dogs and companions for the elderly and handicapped. These dogs are very loving toward their owners and they require plenty of loving attention in return. They don’t like to be alone for long periods of time and may become destructive when lonely. Golden Retrievers are good family pets because they are extremely gentle with children. They also get along well with other family pets.

Golden Retrievers are one of the easiest breeds to train. They are talented and intelligent animals that do well in a variety of competitions. Although they excel in many areas they are at their best when interacting with their human companions. You couldn’t ask for a better family dog than a Golden Retriever.
