Yorkipoo

An emergence of designer dogs has brought about a whole new set of breeds. In fact, designer dogs are becoming more and more popular with more and more people clamoring after them. However, these designer breeds can be more expensive than purebreds, partly due to their lack of availability.

A Yorkipoo is a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a poodle. The resulting dog will exhibit some of the more dominant characteristics of each breed. However, some of the more annoying characteristics or medical problems that tend to show up in either the Poodle or the Yorkshire Terrier will be absent or less apparent.

The explanation behind this selectivity of favorable characteristics is the simple fact that many of a purebred’s problematic traits are genetically recessive, which means that in order for it to appear in puppies both parents must have the trait in their genetic makeup. Crossbreeding can and often does eliminate many of the recessive characteristics.

Yorkipoos are very small dogs known as toys. Their size makes them a terrific choice for an indoor dog. Additionally, Yorkipoos do not shed very much, if at all, and are usually hypoallergenic. Therefore, this is an excellent choice for a pet for individuals who do have allergies to animals.

Although this breed is stubborn by nature, it typically displays a carefree nature. Yorkipoos are quite playful and enjoy being around other household pets, especially other dogs and cats. His playfulness comes out in a need for activity and regular exercise.

Yorkipoos are easily housebroken in most cases, unlike their counterparts the purebred Yorkshire Terrier. An intelligent dog, the Yorkipoo learns quickly and eagerly. Moreover, this breed is pleasant and has a gentle nature, making it a perfect pick as a pet for a family with children.

Adult Yorkipoos usually weigh between 4 and 15 pounds and reach a height of 7 to 12 inches. The coat of a Yorkipoo is smooth and silky. It may appear to be wavy as well. This breed has a nicely proportioned body that is partly responsible for his endearing look. The American Canine Hybrid Club recognizes this particular breed, although they refer to it as the Yorkie-Poo.
